i tried this gruner veltliner from austria recently. this is the second gruner i have tried and i am still unsure whether i am really crazy about the varietal. the nose was pears, spice and floral notes. the palate was clean with flavors of pear, lentil and spicy white pepper. a little sweetness and a crisp finish. i enjoyed it to a point but wouldn't want to drink it alone as i did on this occasion. i would think this would pair with ham dish. sells for about $17.
