Riondo Pinot Grigio Spago D'Oro 2007

in new york with the comely brunette and of course drinking a little wine. great places to buy wine here. lots of wine stores around that sell quite a few italian varietals. we tried this nice pinot grigio that sold for about $10. nose of apples, pears and some really nice floral notes. the taste was pears and jasmine with some crisp mineral notes in a medium length finish. very clean, bright pinot grigio, and well worth the price. good food wine. we enjoyed this with chicken, red potatoes and steamed broccoli.

Ca Tullio Pinot Grigio 2007

warm weather is here so i am tasting a few more white wines and tried this one last week. the nose was floral with apple and pineapple as well. on the palate this was heavy on the citrus with lemon and lime flavors prevailing. the wine was very crisp and acidic and the finish was clean and abrupt. not a bad pinot grigio for about $10, although i wasn't crazy about it. think salads and other light summer foods and cheeses with this one.

Ferrari-Carano Pinot Grigio 2007

here is a nice, crisp pinot grigio which we enjoyed with some cheese and crackers. the nose is peaches and citrus, with hints of green apples. the palate is lively, with flavors of melon and lemon-lime, vibrant acidity and a nice, long finish. the bottle sells for about $13.

Bota Box 2007 Pinot Grigio

back to the boxed wine circuit. priced nicely like the shiraz at $15.99, which is four bottles of wine! this is great to have on hand when you have company. we actually had a cold day and were drinking this while enjoying time in the hot tub. the wine stayed chilled due to the air temperature. the nose was tropical fruit and floral notes. the palate was crisp with flavors of lemon and minerals. just a nice drinkable white that refreshed us as we warmed up in the spa.

Beringer Founders' Estate 2006 Pinot Grigio

we are definitely white wine happy during these warm weather months. we had this sitting around a pool with friends, some cheese, veggies, and crackers. not a bad wine. nose of apricot and some citrus. taste of citrus and apples. wasn't a great pinot grigio. i think i have had much better ones that i have reviewed in the past week or so. this one sells for about $7, so the price is nice. not sure i could go back again for more of this. it was just a bit too simple for my taste. i prefer a more complex flavor and this fell short in that category.

Tramin 2006 Pinot Grigio

here is another very nice summer time white. nose of pears and spice. flavors of pear, peach and a crisp mineral finish. very bright, snappy wine with a nice, long finish. i had this white with an ahi tuna dinner. and it complemented the food very nicely. sells for about $14.

Luna Vineyards 2006 Pinot Grigio

it's been a while since my last post. the baldwinegeek and the comely brunette spent a week on a beach, soaking up sun and drinking some very nice wines. i'll be playing catch up over the course of the next week. the first night of the week long getaway started with this very nice bottle of pinot grigio. nose was nice with apple and citrus aromas. crisp taste of pineapple, some citrus, mineral and a long finish of green apples. the alcohol content was a little higher for a pinot grigio at 14%. but this didn't deter from the taste. it added a slight warmth. there was a nice acidic bite to the finish as well. a very nice start to the relaxing, summertime atmosphere of a vacation. priced at about $18, i think this one is well worth the price.

Fish Eye Pinot Grigio

the baldwinegeek usually doesn't go the box wine route, but sometimes you just make an exception due to the number of people you may have at a deck party. and when you pay about $15 for a 3 liter box which is equal to 4 bottles, it translates into less than $4 a bottle. a nice price. is it worth it though. i say yes. crisp and refreshing. melon, apricots some spice notes and citrus. very tasty indeed. it goes to show that sometimes you don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get a nice wine.

Ca'Marcella 2006 Pinot Grigio
pears! aromas of pears was the first thing i got. and it was the main thing i got in the taste as well. a very nice white wine for about $10. minerals in the finish which was nice and long. decent summer time with a light fruit or shrimp salad. sorry about the lack of the label. i didn't get a photo of it. online search came up empty as well.

Barefoot 2006 Pinot Grigio

you would think that a wine that sells for $6 would not be all that good. this one goes against that trend. we first discovered this gem on a beach vacation for the price of $4, and its popularity has grown, as has the price. what a nice drinkable summertime wine. nose of green apples and citrus. crisp and clean on the palate with tastes of lemon and granny smith apple and a zesty clean finish. a definite best buy.

Twisted Pig 2006 Pinot Grigio

i had to buy this one for two reasons: the name and the price ($7.99). this one was worth the price, although it wasn't spectacular. on the nose, grass and lemon with hints of minerals. not much to the aroma. very subtle. and on the palate it was similar. lemon, citrus, green, a little mineral. a little sweetness. the wine was a bit tight, but very drinkable. a nice one for every day with snacks on the deck. at this price, i would consider it again. it isn't as good as barefoot pinot grigio at this same price point. and it won't compete with those really good pinot grigio's. but it will quench that summer time thirst.
